Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has officially launched the Seal U Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) SUV, with all new vehicles to accelerate its electrified vehicle portfolio. The new SUV also has the company's advanced DM-i hybrid technology, which will be able to have a huge range of more than 1,200 kilometres for long-distance driving, making it one of the most efficient long-distance hybrid SUVs in the world.
With a fuel-efficient petrol engine and battery pack in place, Seal U PHEVs allow long journeys with no frequent charging or refuelling stops to ensure long-range and easy navigation. The vehicle offers electric driving for the day-to-day commute and is designed to eliminate range anxiety on longer trips.
Advanced Hybrid Technology
At the heart of the Seal U is BYD’s latest DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligence) plug-in hybrid system, prioritising electric power during regular driving conditions, and seamlessly switching to hybrid operation when additional power or range is needed.
The SUV will deliver excellent fuel efficiency while still providing high performance. Depending on the variant, the Seal U can drive far distances on electric power alone before a gasoline engine comes in to expand the full range.

The Seal U is based on BYD’s contemporary Ocean Series design language and features sleek LED lighting, aerodynamic design and a comfortable interior. Inside, the SUV offers a premium experience with a large rotating infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, connected-car technology, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

India Launch At End-2026
Industry sources said BYD is looking into the Seal U PHEV for use in the Indian market, with a launch of that vehicle potentially in late 2026. If the SUV were to be created, it could make the difference between conventional internal combustion vehicles and electric cars and be a solution to consumers who want long-range mobility without reliance on charging infrastructure.
The launch would further strengthen BYD's presence in India, where the company already sells models like the BYD Seal, BYD Atto 3 and BYD eMAX 7.
