Ferrari has launched a new track-focused supercar, the 296 GT Modificata, for enthusiasts who want a Ferrari based on racing without the restrictions of a GT competition. It takes the 296 family architecture and extends it with added power, improved aerodynamics, enhanced cooling, and a racing-style, track-focused look.
The 296 GT Modificata is not governed by professional GT racing rules, and so Ferrari engineers have more freedom to tailor the car for private track driving and high-performance experiences.
720 Horsepower From a Hybrid V6
Some of the best aspects of the 296 GT Modificata is its powertrain. 720 horsepower is the car’s output compared to the 296 GT3.
The model is based on Ferrari's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 hybrid architecture. The combustion-engine performance and electrification make the Modificata different from a track-only racing machine.
In comparison, the road-going 296 GTB and 296 GTS produce 819 horsepower in their 2026 versions, while the 296 Speciale has been developed with an even more performance-oriented setup.
Aggressive Aerodynamic Package
Ferrari has also modified the exterior aerodynamics of the 296 GT Modificata. The bonnet has been redesigned, a front splitter was added, and a rear wing was added, large enough to produce more aerodynamic performance.
Cooling has also been improved, with revised vents and airflow management designed to help the car withstand demanding track sessions.
The entire design makes the Modificata appear much more like a dedicated racing machine than a regular road-going 296. Aerodynamic components are made not merely for visual impact, but also to retain stability and performance at high speeds.
Designed for Track-Day Enthusiasts
The Ferrari 296 GT Modificata will be available to customers who enjoy the benefits of a race-inspired Ferrari, but not so much that they want to be in competition with them.
Interestingly, the car retains a second seat to let an instructor, coach, or passenger join the driver during the track sessions, so that owners can learn to drive in the car and also take the car's capabilities into account.
So the concept is somewhere between a professional racing machine and a private track-day supercar.
Two Years of Ferrari Club Competizioni GT Access
Purchasers of the 296 GT Modificata will also get two years of access to Ferrari's Club Competizioni GT and will be able to participate in the track events around the world.
