Simple Energy has expanded its electric scooter portfolio from this year onwards to include a family-oriented electric scooter with practicality, long riding range and everyday ease of use. At a starting price of ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the Simple Wave is one of the most competitive sectors of India's rapidly growing electric two-wheeler market. The top-of-the-range Wave+ is at a claimed 243km IDC range and the entire lineup also offers various battery capacities to suit different budgets and usage requirements.
The new electric scooter is available in three main versions (Wave S, Wave and Wave+) with six models depending on battery capacity, display configuration and connected features. Simple Energy has used four battery sizes across the lineup, starting with a 2.2kWh battery and then up to a 5kWh battery on the Wave+. That way, consumers can choose between a more affordable city-based scooter and a longer range one for longer ride times.
The entry-level Wave S EBN has a 2.2kWh battery with a claimed IDC range of 110km on a single charge and it uses a motor of 6.03hp. Moving up the lineup, the 2.7kWh battery has a claimed 132km range and the 3.7kWh gives up to 171km. These bigger battery configurations also support a more powerful 8.58hp motor, making them suitable for longer trips or passengers.
At the top of the range is the Simple Wave+, with the largest 5kWh battery pack. Simple Energy claims an IDC range of 243km which places the scooter among the longer-range electric scooters available in its price bracket. The Wave+ is also claimed to have a top speed of 90km/h and 179Nm of wheel torque. But as with other IDC numbers, in practice, it will depend on riding conditions, traffic, rider weight, speed and use of electrical features.
One of the main talking points of the Wave is its storage capacity. Simple Energy claims up to 70 litres of storage for a scooter that is marketed as a family-oriented model. The under-seat compartment has 63 litres and there is also a 3-litre glovebox and an additional 4-litre compartment called the ‘Pill’. The company describes this auxiliary storage solution as a first-of-its-kind feature that can give riders extra space for smaller everyday items.
The Wave is also designed with Indian road and weather conditions in mind. It has a tubular steel frame, telescopic front suspension and twin rear shocks. The scooter is equipped with 12-inch alloy wheels and front disc and rear drum braking with combined braking. The ground clearance is rated at 175mm, and Simple Energy claims the scooter can handle water depths of up to 300mm. This could be useful for riders who have been stuck on flooded roads in India during monsoon season time, although it should still be handled with caution when crossing flooded stretches.
Charging is also a big part of the package. On the range-topping model, Simple Energy claims a 0-80 per cent fast-charging time of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. A 750W portable charger is also included throughout the range for home charging. The charging setup is designed to make the Wave practical for users who may not have access to dedicated high-power charging infrastructure.

Technology is different in each version. Advanced versions have a 7-inch TFT display, along with features such as GPS tracking, over-the-air updates and hill-hold assist. Entry-level versions have a simpler 5-inch EBN display. The combination of connected technology and practicalities is designed to make the Wave more appealing for families who want an electric scooter to be able to travel with the family and to work from home and do daily running and work.
Bookings for the Simple Wave are now open through Simple Energy outlets and its website. Deliveries will start in the last week of September. Notably, the ₹1.10 lakh price is an introductory price and Simple Energy has not specified how long the launch pricing will remain.
With multiple battery options, a claimed 243km maximum range, generous storage, family-centric design and a relatively cheap introductory price, the Simple Wave could be a worthy competitor in India's electric scooter market. Its success then ultimately hinges on real-world range, charging experience, after-sales support and how well Simple Energy can scale deliveries across the country.
