The Indian gaming industry is gaining momentum, with Roblox seeing a big rise in users and increasing economic contributions from local creators. Based on the economic impact study conducted by Access Partnership for Roblox, the creator activity associated with the gaming platform contributed to India's GDP at an estimated ₹123.9 crore from 2020 to 2025.
The study also highlights the growing opportunity for Indian developers to develop digital experiences, make money, and reach a global audience in the digital world. Roblox’s daily active users in India increased 64% year-on-year in the third quarter (2nd quarter of June 2026), showing that India is increasingly important to the platform.
Roblox is an online gaming and creation platform where players can play games developed by other users or create their own interactive experiences. Unlike traditional games that only let players play finished games, Roblox offers tools to developers who also design games, build virtual environments, and make money from their work. This model has opened up doors for independent developers, small studios, digital artists, and entrepreneurs.
The new report suggests India has the potential to be a big market for this creator-driven ecosystem, and there is a huge gaming audience and an appetite for digital entertainment. India has more than 500 million gamers and is one of the world’s largest gaming markets.
According to our calculations, India’s video game industry generated approximately ₹6,300 crore in revenue in 2025 and can grow up to ₹9,200 crore by 2028. This can be viewed as a 13% annual growth rate compared to the global growth rate of 5.1% in this study.
Roblox’s user base in India also grew strongly over the long term, with daily active users rising at a compound annual growth rate of 76% between 2020 and 2025. These figures indicate the growing opportunity for gaming platforms to attract players, as well as more opportunities for developers, designers, and businesses that are working in the digital entertainment industry.
Indian Roblox creators see more payouts. The report's major findings include the growth of Indian creators eligible to get payouts from Roblox. Between 2020 and 2025, they doubled their number of creators to 250 by growing 96% annually. Total payouts to eligible creators grew by 72% annually during the same period. So although the number of creators eligible for payouts is still quite low compared to the population in India, the data clearly indicates that there are more opportunities for people who are successful on Roblox.
The estimated contribution of ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP from 2020 to 2025 is indicative of the overall economic impact of creator activity associated with Roblox. In 2025, this activity brought in a total of 510 full-time jobs. These numbers are not a measurement of the number of people who work for Roblox directly. They are, in fact, the total employment impact from the creator ecosystem. This means that game development can support work beyond programming, namely 3D modelling, digital design, freelance services, and other creative activities.
Roblox tools for learning game development. Roblox Studio, the platform's game development tool, is also very accessible for beginners. Among Indian game developers who completed the survey, 94% of the Indian creators said they could develop games on Roblox with little to no prior experience, and 91% said the tools on the platform have helped them learn game development.
65% of respondents said that they first learned to create in the Roblox community, and 62% cited YouTube tutorials as a learning resource. These findings indicate that community support and readily available, open-source resources for learning how to create games can be a boon to a beginner, and it does not necessarily require formal training from the developer.
I would recommend to students who want to build games as they get to play them, and then the game designers can learn programming skills, virtual environments, and test features on the game and be able to understand the game players’ behaviour.
Successful creators may also need to oversee projects and work with artists and see the way in which they are making it through to the top. It can be tough to make money making a popular game, but it’s possible. The quality of a game’s gameplay, audience engagement, monetisation methods, and competition from other developers will determine the earnings. Indian Developers Are reaching international audiences.
Roblox has become a platform for Indian creators to reach a global audience beyond the domestic market. 92% of the Indian creators surveyed said the platform has helped them to get their games to international users. They reported that foreign players made up 52% of daily users on the games created by their respondents and generated about 55% of their revenue. India's top international markets were the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Among the creators who publish on multiple platforms, Roblox generated 61% of their creation revenue on average.
The report also points out that experience gained from Roblox could be of use to broader career opportunities. Over 91% of Indian creators surveyed said their work on the platform has helped them to get job offers, freelance work, or business opportunities. That is, a digital portfolio is useful to show what you can do and how you can sell your skills to clients or employers in the world of digital skills. But these are survey results and can’t be taken as results that every creator can expect. Roblox expands its focus to India. Roblox is now more and more involved with India’s game and creator community.
At the UNBOX ROBLOX event in New Delhi in October 2026, Roblox showed its development and creator tools and opportunities for local developers. Sunil Rao, the company’s India & South Asia Managing Director, said the next big hit on the platform could come from India and expressed the company’s belief in the country’s growing creative talent pool. The company has also launched its Build in India initiative and Hindi language support, and will continue to improve Hindi language support in the future, the company said in an interview.
The new numbers point to India’s expanded place in the global gaming landscape beyond just downloading digital entertainment. The increased user engagement, creator payouts, and international reach could help Indian studios and independent developers take a step in finding new business opportunities. On the other hand, the economic contribution is a forecast for Roblox by Access Partnership, and the creator survey is about the experiences of its respondents, not every Indian gamer or developer.
The challenge is to develop this interest in India’s gaming industry into career-oriented careers, commercially successful games, and long-term creative businesses in what will be a growing sector in a fast-growing gaming industry. Roblox’s latest report is a testament to that, as well as suggesting that Indian talent can create digital experiences for the world to enjoy and be creative in an interactive way in the digital age.
