Tired of Call Drops? TRAI’s MyCall App Lets Users Rate Mobile Network Quality Across India

If you’ve ever faced call drops and voice quality problems or poor mobile signal problems, you’re probably frustrated with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and want to tell them about it.

To improve network performance, the telecom regulator is asking mobile users across the country to rate the quality of their mobile calls through its MyCall app.

The MyCall app is a crowdsourced platform for real-time information about the quality of voice calls made by mobile subscribers. TRAI is not just relying on telcos’ reports, but also the public’s feedback to better understand network performance in different regions.

How can we use the MyCall app

MyCall is available for Android phones. It automatically prompts users to rate the quality of their voice call after each successful call. Users can give ratings like:

  1. Good.
  2. Average.
  3. Poor

But they can also mention some specific issues:

  1. Call drops
  2. Voice disturbances
  3. One-way audio
  4. No signal
  5. Network congestion

The app records technical information like signal strength, network type (2G, 3G, 4G or 5G), location (with permission) and call duration. This information is securely sent to TRAI for analysis.

Why does TRAI want user feedback

India has over a billion mobile subscribers. Thus, it is quite difficult for a reliable network to deliver the kind of data and services to subscribers. As telecom operators regularly report performance data, the reality of customer experience can differ depending on their location, time, and network traffic.

The MyCall app helps TRAI to see what is wrong through millions of user-generated reports that the regulator can use to pinpoint problems, allowing them to monitor service quality and encourage telcos to upgrade network infrastructure where necessary.

Benefits for Mobile Users

The MyCall app enables consumers to report bad service. Users’ feedback is useful information that can be used to improve the network.

This app also provides a greater level of transparency in telecom services by allowing independent monitoring of call quality across operators.

Privacy and Data Collection

The app does not collect the content of conversations, TRAI states. It only collects technical information related to call performance and user ratings that are submitted voluntarily. It needs to be granted permissions to collect location or device information.

In the near future, we will move toward better telecom services

As we expand 4G and 5G coverage in India, customer feedback is still important to identify network gaps. The MyCall app is an important tool that bridges the gap between users, telecom operators, and the regulator.

For mobile network users who are generally frustrated with bad connections or call drops, rating each call could boost mobile network service greatly.
