The development has raised new questions about food safety, milk quality and regulatory compliance in India. A Referral Food Laboratory confirmed that its milk sample was assessed after the company appealed and the results were confirmed.

What Did the Laboratory Find

According to reports from October 17, 2026, a regulatory sample of Dodla Dairy’s full cream milk was collected for testing. The Food Analyst at the time declared it substandard because of the milk fat requirements.

The sample was sent to a Referral Food Laboratory for further examination following an appeal. The sample was found to be unsafe because of detergent or caustic soda, according to the laboratory. It also found the milk fat content below the minimum required level.

These findings triggered regulatory action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The competent authority gave approval to initiate prosecution proceedings against Dodla Dairy and other concerned food business operators associated with the product’s manufacture and marketing.

Why Is Milk Adulteration a Serious Concern

Milk is a popular food item in Indian households an is the primary source of protein, calcium and other nutrients. If there is any contamination with substances that are not allowed in food products, public health will be negatively affected.

Detergents are cleaning agents and are not to be consumed as part of milk. Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) is a highly alkaline chemical that can lead to severe irritation or chemical burns depending on concentration and exposure.

The lab results reported in this article pertain only to a particular regulatory sample. They should not be taken as proof that every batch or product sold by Dodla Dairy contains these substances.

In other words, consumers should be looking to official food safety advisories and verified laboratory results as opposed to unverified information on social media.

FSSAI Steps Up Food Safety Enforcement

The action against Dodla Dairy is part of a wider enforcement campaign involving many food firms. On October 17, FSSAI also announced prosecution proceedings against Surya Food & Agro, the manufacturer of Priyagold biscuits, after inspections found cattle-feed bran being used in biscuit production.

The regulator also launched an investigation of UEIR Organic Foods after pesticide residues were detected in a sample of yellow raisins sold by the company. These separate cases underscore that ingredients must be good, they should be stored properly and the food safety standards should be followed.

What Happens Next

The prosecution process will enable the authorities to pursue the alleged violations through the legal process. Regulatory sampling, laboratory analysis and follow-up testing are of the utmost importance to detect potentially unsafe food products, the case demonstrates.

Consumers who have concerns about a food product can consult official FSSAI advisories and use the regulator’s complaint channels to report suspected food safety violations.

Food manufacturers need to pay attention to transparent quality control processes and adhere to the rules. The investigation and legal processes for the sample and the businesses will be crucial.
