Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Srikanth Shetty Karkala has been banned from entering Kalaburagi city from September 30 to October 4. He was going to visit the city to do a Hindu Maha Ganapati programme.
According to the report, the restriction has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Special Executive Magistrate in Kalaburagi. The order is linked to the city’s law and order problems during the programme.
Srikanth Shetty had been invited as the main speaker at the Hindu Maha Ganapati event organised in Kalaburagi. He was expected to arrive in the city on October 1 to take part in the programme.
Entry Restricted From September 30 to October 4
As per the details of the reported order, the restriction on Srikanth Shetty's entry will remain in force from September 30 to October 4.
The move is ahead of the Hindu Maha Ganapati programme, which happens in Kalaburagi. The reason for this is the possibility of speeches or statements that could harm law and order, the authorities have said.
The order states that Shetty should not enter Kalaburagi city limits during the specified period.
The restriction is a preventive measure to avoid any situation that authorities believe could potentially lead to tension or disruption during the event period.
Invited as Main Speaker
Srikanth Shetty was invited to address the Hindu Maha Ganapati programme as the chief or main speaker. The event attracted attention in the city as part of the Ganapati celebrations.
His visit was scheduled for October 1, according to the order. After this restriction, he will not be allowed to enter the city during the period mentioned in the directive.
Kalaburagi town has hosted several religious and cultural events over the past few days. A Hindu Maha Ganapati installation in front of the historic fort area also attracted devotees and visitors. According to public reports, religious leaders have visited the installation and participated in related programmes.
Law and Order Cited
The order was taken because a potentially provocative speech could have adverse effects on the enforcement of law and order.
Such preventive restrictions have been imposed on Srikanth Shetty before in other parts of Karnataka. In June 2025, the Bagalkot district administration banned him from entering the district for three months ahead of a programme where he was scheduled to be a main speaker. Security concerns about communal harmony and law and order were cited.
More recently, in September 2026, reports said Shetty was also prevented from entering Haveri district ahead of a Ganeshotsava programme in Hanagal. Hindu organisations criticized that restriction, while the circumstances surrounding the order were reported differently by different parties.
These previous incidents are part of the larger context surrounding the latest reported restriction in Kalaburagi.
Hindu Maha Ganapati Programme
Kalaburagi Hindu Maha Ganapati celebrations have seen religious programmes and visits from prominent spiritual figures.
On September 27, the head of Koppal Gavimath visited the Hindu Maha Ganapati installation in Kalaburagi and offered prayers and participated in the religious proceedings.
September also witnessed other Hindu community programmes in the city. A separate Basavadi Sharanara Hindu Samavesha was organised in Kalaburagi on September 27, and it attracted public and political attention.
A protest was also held in the city on September 25 against that particular convention, with the organizers worrying about the use of the term "Hindu" along with Basavadi Sharanara.
So authorities are in a position to observe public order more closely at large gatherings.
Action Warned If Restriction Is Violated
The reported directive will mean that Srikanth Shetty will remain outside Kalaburagi city for the duration of the restriction.
If the order is breached, then authorities can take action. It is said to prevent the creation of tension or disturbance of public order during the Hindu Maha Ganapati activities.
The restriction is currently in place until October 4. Any change, extension, or withdrawal would depend on a further order from the competent authorities.
For now, the development has become a significant point of discussion ahead of the proposed October 1 programme, especially because Shetty had been invited as a key speaker.
