Officers seized 10.5 grams of MDMA, cash and other items allegedly linked to drug sales during the operation.

The arrests came as part of Operation Toofan, an anti-narcotics drive aimed at disrupting alleged drug distribution networks. According to the police, the group was involved in distributing MDMA to students and young people in the Vengara and Mankada areas of Malappuram district.

Who Are the Four Suspected Drug Traffickers?

The four arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Minu Jasmin, 23: A social media influencer from Koottilangadi.

  • Anas, 24: A resident of Malappuram.

  • Shabeer TP, 24: A resident of Mankada.

  • Sajjad, 21: A resident of Kooriyad in the Vengara region.

Police said the four were travelling in a car when officers stopped them at around midnight. The arrests followed a tip-off about suspected drug-related activities in the area.

The investigation is focused on the alleged supply and distribution of MDMA, according to the police.

How Did the Drug Bust in Malappuram Happen?

The arrests were made during Operation Toofan, an anti-narcotics drive aimed at identifying suspected drug networks and disrupting the supply of illegal drugs.

Acting on a tip-off, police located the car in which the four individuals were travelling and arrested them.

The seized items are now being examined as part of the investigation into the alleged drug trade.

What Did Police Seize During the Operation?

The items seized during the operation include:

  • 10.5 grams of MDMA: Estimated to be worth around ₹50,000 in the retail market.

  • Cash: Almost ₹25,000 allegedly collected through drug sales.

  • Syringes: Suspected to have been used for injecting drugs.

  • Digital weighing scale: Suspected to have been used to measure the drugs.

  • Zip-lock covers: Suspected to have been used for packaging the drugs.

  • A car: The vehicle in which the accused were travelling was also seized.

The seized materials will form part of the evidence investigators examine while investigating the group's alleged activities.

Police Suspect Drug Supply to Students and Young People

According to the police, the group allegedly sold MDMA to students and young people in the Vengara and Mankada areas.

The investigation is focusing on the suspected distribution network and the circumstances surrounding the seized drugs.

Police also said that Anas, Shabeer and Sajjad had previously been booked in MDMA-related cases at different police stations.

However, those previous cases are not linked to the present investigation and do not establish guilt in this case. The allegations against all four individuals remain under investigation.

Police Team Behind Operation Toofan

The operation was led by Malappuram Deputy Superintendent of Police Subhash Babu.

Malappuram Police Inspector B. Shajimon and Sub-Inspector Sanal were also present during the operation. Members of the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force took part in the action.

The arrests form part of the authorities' efforts to identify drug distribution networks in the district, particularly those suspected of targeting young people.

Investigation Into the Alleged Drug Network Continues

The investigation into the alleged drug network is under way. Police have seized MDMA, money, packaging materials and other items and are examining the suspected drug distribution activities in greater detail.

Investigators are examining the evidence collected during the operation and looking into possible links between the accused and the alleged drug supply network.

The case also highlights the continuing concerns of law enforcement agencies about the possible availability of drugs to students and young people in Kerala. Drug distribution remains a broader concern for authorities across the country.
