AI vs IT Jobs: Why Infosys Is Recruiting 20,000 Graduates in 2026??!

Infosys is preparing graduates to work on AI adoption, software development, and modernisation of legacy systems. Businesses need support in integrating AI into existing applications, checking the accuracy of generated code, strengthening cybersecurity, and adapting their operations.

AI coding assistants can speed up repetitive programming tasks, but their output still needs to be tested, undergo security reviews and human supervision. Consequently, employers are looking for graduates who can mix core technical knowledge with problem-solving skills and the ability to use AI tools effectively.

Infosys chief executive Salil Parekh has said that AI services contributed more than 8% of the company’s revenue in the past quarter and could account for almost half of its work within two to three years if growth continues. This is a management forecast, not a guaranteed outcome.

How is hiring different from previous years?

Infosys recruited more than 20,000 college graduates in FY26, and plans to recruit another 20,000 in FY27. The announced target is therefore consistent with its recent graduate hiring strategy and not a new hiring surge.

The workforce at the company has also grown slowly. Infosys reported 317,240 employees in FY24, 323,578 in FY25 and 328,594 in FY26. These numbers show net workforce growth in the period but the total headcount alone does not show how many employees were hired, left or moved into different roles. AI is changing India's IT employment landscape

The broader Indian technology sector is moving towards specialist skills. AI-based hiring in India’s IT sector rose 16% year-on-year in June, while IT recruitment declined 3% when it comes to IT jobs (July 2026). The findings indicate demand is becoming more concentrated on AI-related jobs. Indian IT firms have also shown no hard evidence of job losses for AI adoption at all levels in IT employment, particularly at the entry level, which is what we are looking for. That suggests a transformation in what kind of work companies find it necessary to hire employees to do.

What is the future of Indian IT jobs?

India's IT industry is likely to see increased demand for AI engineers, data experts, cloud experts, cybersecurity experts and developers to manage AI-assisted software production. Traditional roles can change as companies automate routine work, focusing on more complex work and business results.

The point is very clear for novice graduates: a degree alone is not enough. Practical experience with AI tools, programming fundamentals, data handling, communication and critical thinking can help to prepare candidates in the skills-driven business world.

Infosys’ hiring target does not prove that AI will create enough jobs to offset every position affected by automation. It does, however, illustrate how one of India’s largest IT services companies is adapting its workforce strategy to a technology-driven business model.
