As a veteran of one of India’s most intense media firestorms years after being at the center of one of the most intense media storms in recent years, Rhea Chakraborty spoke very frankly about her journey of healing. Rhea Chakraborty recently disclosed in a recent interview that therapy was a lifeline to her after the tragic death of her then-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, in June 2020.
The Long Road to Healing
The aftermath of Sushant’s death brought Rhea with it: a torrent of national attention, character assassination and an investigation by the government. For months, her every move was dissected by television cameras and social media trolls alike. Now, having come out stronger, Rhea says therapy allowed her to rebuild herself from scratch. “I still believe in love. I still believe in kindness. But it took me years of therapy to get here,” she said.
She described how the constant judgment and public vilification left deep emotional scars. “There were days I couldn’t even step out of my house. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror.” But with professional help in her life, she had an ability to separate her self-worth from what people saw. Finding Herself Again
Rhea said healing is not always a linear process. It is hard sometimes, but therapy gave her a way to move through the darkness. “It taught me that it is okay to not be okay. It taught me to forgive myself,” she said. Today, she is slowly returning to work and public life and doing work that aligns with the new purpose that she has found. As much as she refuses to let the past define her, Rhea acknowledges that the experience fundamentally changed her.
A Message of Hope
“I want people to know that no matter how broken you are, there’s a way out. And asking for help is not weakness—it is the bravest thing you can do," she said. For Rhea Chakraborty, love, therapy and time have finally begun to stitch the wounds shut.
