South Indian superstar Trisha Krishnan broke her silence yesterday, using her trademark wit to quiet the rumors about her personal and professional life. The Ponniyin Selvan actress took to Instagram to dispel rumours that she’d quit the film industry to settle down, a story that had been going viral for a few weeks.
The "Fiction Quota" Response
Trisha posted a rather scathing but humorous Instagram Story in response to the reports of actor-journalist Chithra Lakshmanan, who had said that an official retirement announcement was imminent.
"Apparently I've quit films, married a rich businessman and I'm raising quadruplets who turned two yesterday! Anything else I should add or did we cover today’s fiction quota?"
The quirky statement was not just a “no” to the speculation she was leaving the silver screen. It’s that blunt tone that the actress seems very much to have that fans like her bluntness in the face of huge digital scrutiny and she does seem to be doing a job she was not going to let people know she’s in the industry.
Why the Rumors Spiraled
We knew the retirement buzz wasn’t coming from a vacuum. It was the result of dark social media posts and the ongoing legal battle between Thalapathy Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam.
A recent quote from Trisha: “Love is not everything and yet everything is meaningless without love” was misinterpreted as a signal of her changing priorities. Her presence with Vijay at a private function also led to filmmaker R. Parthiban's “dig” at her name. He used her character name Kundavai to make derogatory remarks and Trisha said: “A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent, it just makes stupidity louder.”
The Shadow of the Vijay-Sangeetha Divorce
The most intense pressure on Trisha is from the divorce petition filed by Sangeetha at the District Court in Chengalpattu. The petition seeking the dissolution of her marriage to the TVK leader and actor cited “emotional cruelty” and an alleged extramarital affair that Sangeetha claimed to have discovered in April 2021.
While the court case is still ongoing, neither Vijay nor Trisha has ever confirmed any romantic relationship, the “gossip mills” have always connected the two stars. Trisha has remained professionally detached and silent and only speaks out when her professional integrity or personal character is directly attacked.
Career Still on Track
Despite the “retirement” tale, Trisha is still one of the busiest actresses in the industry. With a series of big-budget films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema, her “fiction quota” comment shows that she is not finished with her career in front of the camera.
Trisha has so successfully turned marriage and “quadruplets” rumors into sarcasm that she has turned the conversation back to the silliness of tabloid speculation and reminded the public that her life is far from the scripted drama others are trying to write for her.
