A disturbing assault on a female doctor in Maharashtra’s Wardha district has started a large national conversation about how unsafe it is to be a healthcare professional in India today.
The problem is made worse because this real attack happened at the time the medical community is distracted by the teaser for Sunny Deol’s new action movie, Suryaa.
Doctors and medical associations are angry saying it is very dangerous when movies make violence against healthcare workers look normal while real doctors are being beaten on the job.
What happened at the Wardha clinic?
In October 2026 a shocking security failure occurred inside the Talegaon Primary Health Centre in Wardha. A local criminal with a record Qadir Ali was taken into the clinic by five police officers for a required checkup before he was to go to court.
The clinic’s CCTV camera recorded the event and the footage is difficult to watch. After the checkup while the paperwork was being finished the criminal suddenly became angry. He stepped forward. Slapped the female doctor Dr. Shraddha Bhumre, hard across the face. It is more frustrating because this happened right in front of the police officers, who did not react or protect the doctor at all.
SHOCKING: Accused Slaps Lady Doctor Inside Police Presence In Wardha Maharashtra, an accused named Qadir Ali slapped Dr. Shraddha Bhumre right inside a primary health center during medical examination. Caught on CCTV this outrageous incident has sparked massive outrage among doctors, who are now demanding strict security and threatening to shut down OPD services

Local medical groups are very angry about the lack of security. They want safety upgrades at public clinics and have threatened to shut down all OPD services across the district if the government does not protect the doctor and other healthcare workers.
The pop-culture backlash over Sunny Deol’s Suryaa
While doctors on the ground face physical threats another fight have started about how they are shown on screen. Days ago, the teaser for Sunny Deol’s new crime drama Suryaa, was released. The film shows Deol playing a grieving father who fights a medical system.
"I see this pattern a lot. When something goes wrong in a hospital, anger turns quickly toward the doctors. Films that show attacks on doctors or staff as justified, or treat the whole profession as corrupt, make that anger feel more acceptable....."#DoctorsSafety #HealthcareWorkers #PublicHealth #Suryaa #DoctorPatientTrust #MedicalProfession

The teaser quickly upset the community. Doctors strongly criticized lines in the promo, such as Deol saying, "Doctors don’t write prescriptions they write their commissions." They also objected to scenes where a father beats hospital workers as though it was the right thing to do.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) officially sent a letter to the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry demanding a serious review of the movie before its November release. The IMA said that while the association does not support corruption, portraying the doctor as a target of vigilante attacks is very dangerous.
Why doctors are saying "enough is enough”
Doctors on media point out the terrible timing of all this. They say that in a country where ER doctors and interns face abuse nearly every week, a huge Bollywood star praising the beating of medical staff hurts public trust and endangers lives. The combined drama of the Wardha assault and the Suryaa teaser have sent a clear message from India’s medical community: doctors cannot save lives if they are always afraid, for their own safety.
