The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued weather alerts for parts of the region as rain and thunderstorms rolled through the region during the afternoon and drenched it.

Heavy Rain Affects Delhi-NCR

The heavy showers had hit Delhi-NCR in a big way. The rain brought some relief from the hot weather, which had made it so hot.

Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh along with Gurugram in Haryana also had rainfall. The intensity of the showers might vary from one area to another.

IMD Issues Weather Alerts

The IMD issued alerts at a time of change in weather in Delhi-NCR. Residents should be on guard for local weather updates, as thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds can accompany heavy rains, it said.

An orange alert indicates adverse weather. Residents should be warned and be prepared to go on a trip in heavy rain.

Temperatures Expected to Dip

The rain will lead to a cooler day-to-day temperature in some parts of the national capital region where rain will also mean a cooling down in some parts of the national capital region of Delhi. Delhi had a minimum temperature of 23.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 29 degrees Celsius.

The change of weather follows a relatively warm day on Wednesday, when Delhi's Safdarjung weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 33.3 degrees Celsius.

What Residents Should Keep in Mind

Heavy rain can affect road visibility, slow down traffic, and cause water accumulation in low-lying areas. Commuters should take longer travel times to get there and check local traffic updates before leaving the city in case of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Residents should stay away from trees and open spaces during thunderstorms and avoid these areas during lightning. Weather is unpredictable and can change quickly, so people should take the latest news from the IMD and local authorities very soon.
