The 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) nominations were announced today, demonstrating a diverse and competitive slate of movies from 2025 and leading up to one of the most closely monitored awards seasons in recent years.
A highlight of the nominations is “One Battle After Another”, which secured the highest number of nods across major categories including Best Film, Director, and several acting and technical awards. Just behind is “Sinners,” which also performed strongly with widespread recognition in top categories. Other major contenders include “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Sentimental Value,” all of which received multiple nominations and are seen as strong awards-season frontrunners.
Five titles compete for Best Film: Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value, and Sinners. Its acting categories are a blend of established stars as well as first-time BAFTA nominees, reflecting the Academy’s efforts to balance the prestige of performances with room for up-and-coming talent.
British cinema was equally represented in the Outstanding British Film category, while technical and craft nominations recognized achievements in cinematography, editing, sound, visual effects, and original score across a wide catalogue of genres.
The winners will be announced in the 79th BAFTA Film Awards; the ceremony will be on 22 February 2026 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The event will undoubtedly have a major impact on momentum ahead of the Academy Awards, further underpinning BAFTA’s impact on the global film awards landscape.
