Austin officials say they are on high alert for a shooting that has sent police rushing in and continuing searches as a manhunt continues while the suspect remains at large. The situation is not a mystery, and police authorities are advising the public to keep an eye on the situation. The shooting appeared to start on a busy corner, and soon after, police arrived, rushing in quickly.
The Austin Police Department acted swiftly, contained the area, and conducted an early search for the suspect. But who the victims and injured were is not known, they said. Medical assistance that came quickly got to everyone involved, and anyone injured was referred to the nearest hospitals.
Police have erected barricades throughout the area in the course of their investigation, with residents encouraged not to come within its immediate path unless further warning is given. The suspect subsequently took off, the officials said, sounding an alert across the city.
Helicopters, patrol companies and speciality teams have been sent to find the suspect. Checkpoints in key spots monitor the suspect’s movements so that we can know where he has been. Police officials have advised the public not to approach those who could have a motive for the shooting.
What they are given instead is to report suspicious behaviour immediately. Officials also urged those in adjacent neighbourhoods to remain indoors and follow official reports. But there is no one intention behind the shooting, and investigators are also working to discover motives from a variety of angles, including whether the shooting was targeted or random.
They also said it would be important in determining the motive to determine whether there was a continuing threat to the public. The episode only underscored these public safety and emergency preparedness issues for the cities in which we live and the places within them. That, in part, means working with local officials to stop such a ratcheting up, and responding collaboratively, with other members of the department involved.
The manhunt continues to flare up, and Austin residents are being instructed to look for things they shouldn’t be using, and to avoid using sources that have not been vetted by official sources. Police have told us they have all the resources they need to arrest the suspect and to restore security at home from this crime.
