South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the projectile was fired toward the sea from North Korean territory. The launch was detected by military monitoring systems, and authorities immediately began assessing the missile’s range, altitude, and flight path.

Officials in Japan also confirmed the launch, stating that the suspected ballistic missile appeared to have landed outside Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Japan’s government activated its emergency monitoring systems and issued alerts to ensure maritime and aviation safety.

Both South Korean and Japanese defense authorities said they are closely coordinating with the United States military to analyze the launch and monitor any further activity.

The latest missile test comes amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, where North Korea has frequently conducted missile launches as part of its weapons development program. Such tests are widely condemned by neighboring countries and the international community because they violate multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions.

South Korea’s military stated that it has strengthened surveillance and remains fully prepared to respond to any additional launches or security threats. Japan also emphasized that it will continue to work closely with allies to ensure regional stability.

Meanwhile, international observers say the launch could further escalate tensions in East Asia, particularly at a time when diplomatic engagement with North Korea remains limited.

Authorities in both South Korea and Japan have urged vigilance while continuing to monitor the situation closely.
