Houston’s wealthy River Oaks district had a tragic shooting as police reported that four family members were killed, including two small children, on Monday evening.
The shooting occurred in a residence in the 2100 block of Kingston Street and sent shockwaves throughout the surrounding community. Relatives and a babysitter had been unable to call the family, and Houston Police Officers responded to a welfare check at approximately 5:26 p.m.
On entry to the home, authorities found the bodies of two adults and two children. Initially, investigators believe it may be a murder-suicide. However, the authorities haven’t provided the identities of the victims. The victims were a father, a pregnant mother and their two children, believed to be aged between four and eight.
The four victims were all from the same family, and each one lived in the same house where the shooting unfolded, police said. Investigators then stuck around all night gathering evidence and questioning relatives and neighbours. The authorities were still not told to the media the motive the crime had for the incident, but the investigation is progressing.
The River Oaks area has a reputation for quiet residential streets and top-end homes, and it has been rattled by a tragedy like this. People there were in shock and grief when the disaster made its way around Houston.
Reception: The attacks drew social media responses calling them “heartbreaking” and “unimaginable.” As detectives piece together the information surrounding the deadly shooting, police are urging anyone who can provide further details about the case to come forward.
