At Tribhuvan International Airport, a tense situation occurred: after landing at Kathmandu, the plane of Turkish Airlines reportedly caught fire in one of its tyres.
Only minutes after entering the runway, fire and smoke appeared to have broken out from one of the landing gear tyres. An airport fire rescue team arrived. Emergency personnel hurried up the runway and contained the fire before it could spread. Officials said everyone inside, including passengers and all crew, was safe, and no one appeared to have been injured during the accident.
Technical personnel from the airport at this time went to move the aeroplane to a safe position, then airport technical personnel began assessing the damage to the aeroplane. Officials on the airport’s safety team switched immediately to emergency safety procedures, they said, in the hopes that passenger safety would be maintained and some of the airport’s other flights could flow.
