Tayab Khan made history by winning the Grand Prize on the lucky day draw on April 27, which happened to be Eid al-Adha day. His identity was revealed by the lottery operator on June 2, and now all of his inspiring story has caught people’s attention, people from the UAE to the world.

Tayab left Nepal four years ago and came to the UAE to find a better job. Like many expatriate workers, he came with the hope of winning and a bright future if he had to work hard. The security guard in Abu Dhabi never imagined with his job that a single ticket to the lottery would change his life forever.

What makes the story even more remarkable is that the jackpot won’t go to Tayab alone. He and his four close friends had formed a lottery-playing group, pooling their money together and taking turns choosing the numbers at random for each draw. The group had even had a WhatsApp chat called "Future Millionaires," and now it’s a title that seems absolutely prophetic.

According to Tayab, it was his turn to pick the numbers for the winning draw. There was no strategy in place. He just picked random numbers and submitted the ticket. On the day the results were announced, he was not even paying attention to the draw.

When the winning notification arrived, he didn’t really notice it. He had been receiving emails in the past about smaller prizes, and so he thought it was another routine message. But when the email arrived, and he opened it, and the amount of Dh30 million appeared, he was dumbfounded.

Tayab recalled that his hands and legs began shaking as he tried to process the news. The emotion of the day was so overwhelming that he was speechless, and still, it is hard for him to describe the feeling then. His first reaction was simple but heartfelt; he felt like he was “in the sky.”

The first person Tayab called after the news about winning was his uncle in Nepal, who had been the family member who had been instrumental in supporting and encouraging his move to the UAE years earlier. When he told his uncle the news, his uncle was supposedly speechless. His uncle had to speak in a very quiet voice and tears in his eyes when he was trying to wrap his head around the life-changing fortune.

Tayab also told his long-time partner, who supported him through years of hard work and challenges. The two were together before he moved to the UAE, and she supported him through difficult times and witnessed all the things he had to go through to get his life to be successful abroad. When he showed the winning ticket, she too was shocked.

The Dh30 million win is the second Grand Prize awarded under the new Lucky Day format of the UAE Lottery. The first winner under the new structure was an Indian expatriate from Abu Dhabi who received Dh100 million in October 2025.

Tayab and his friends, however, see the money as much more than money. It is the reward for years of friendship, hope, persistence, and belief. Now the WhatsApp group name has been changed from “Future Millionaires” to “Millionaires” a fitting ending to a story that shows dreams can come true in the most unexpected ways.
