While Pakistan has made some efforts against extremist organisations, the report points out that these efforts have not been equally sustained and have not been taken on board. Many UN-designated terror groups and individuals can continue to function in Pakistan or even hide out in Pakistan according to the report, threatening the security and security of Pakistan and the world as a whole.
According to the findings, Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations tend to be subject to political and strategic influences and thus unevenly implemented in response, which affects enforcement. Though progress has made in some cases, comprehensive and effective eradication would require further investment to combat terror networks according to the report.
For several years the US has called for Pakistan to take decisive action against organizations that could cause instability in South Asia, particularly those targeting neighboring countries. Pakistan has always denied accusations that it is at risk of providing shelter to terrorist groups and has made heavy investments in counterterrorism fights when in fact there have been major defeats for Pakistan. Most Islamabad officials will defend successful military operations in the past 10 years in the country and say that their country is fighting terrorism and doing its best.
So the report will further damage diplomatic ties and raise the issue of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts worldwide. Pakistan need to make a consistent attempt at action and transparency and restore international trust, the experts say.
