Popular Sandalwood actress Aindrita Ray has voiced her strong frustration over the negligent working style of civic workers in the city. Taking to social media, the actress shared a video highlighting the health hazards caused by the illegal burning of waste in her residential neighborhood.
Aindrita, who resides in the Ideal Home Layout of Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar), expressed that the actions of the ground staff are becoming a direct threat to the health of residents.
"Smoke Filling Our Homes": The Core Issue
The actress alleged that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA/BBMP) staff, after cleaning the streets, gathered the dry waste and set it on fire right in the middle of the residential area.
- Health Hazards: Aindrita pointed out that the thick, toxic smoke from the burning garbage is entering her home, making it impossible to breathe or stay indoors.
- Questioning Protocol: "Why is this being done in a residential zone? This is causing illness and respiratory issues for everyone around," she questioned in her viral video.
- Failure of Systems: The actress further revealed that she tried reaching out to the authorities through official channels, but to no avail.
-
- Control Room: No response after multiple calls.
- Helpline: When she dialed the GBA helpline, she received a message stating the number was disconnected or out of service.
Direct Plea to MLA Munirathna
Frustrated by the lack of response from civic officials and the defunct helpline, Aindrita Ray turned to social media to get the attention of the local representative. She tagged RR Nagar MLA Munirathna, urging him to intervene.
"Requesting the concerned authorities and MLA Munirathna sir to look into this. The smoke is suffocating us, and the helplines aren't working. We need a permanent solution to this unscientific waste disposal," her post read.
Growing Concerns Over Waste Management
This incident has once again brought the spotlight on the illegal practice of garbage burning in Bengaluru. Despite several bans and judicial warnings, ground-level staff often resort to burning dry leaves and plastic waste to avoid the labor of transporting it to processing plants. Residents of RR Nagar have joined Aindrita in demanding stricter supervision of the GBA/BBMP field staff.
