A late-night road accident near the Bodakdev Fire Station in Ahmedabad has led to a police investigation after a Swift car allegedly rammed into a Mahindra Thar at the Bodakdev crossroads.
According to police, the incident took place at 12:15 am on July 21 and police arrived at the scene after receiving a PCR call through the control room. The Swift driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
By searching the vehicle, police also found a sealed 750 ml bottle of vodka with the label “For Sale in Rajasthan Only”.
The Thar driver, 22-year-old Aryanparvat Mehul Gosai, told police that the Swift was being driven at high speed and in a rash manner before colliding with his vehicle.
Gosai told officers the Swift driver appeared intoxicated and that a liquor bottle was visible inside the car.
Driver Allegedly Found Intoxicated
The Swift driver was identified as 30-year-old Bhavik Nitinbhai Adesara, a native of Raipur in Chhattisgarh who was staying in a paying guest accommodation near Judges Bungalow Road in Bodakdev.
According to the police complaint, officers observed Adesara was speaking incoherently, had bloodshot eyes, smelled strongly of alcohol and was unable to maintain his balance.
Police officers asked him to produce a valid permit for liquor possession in Gujarat. The accused allegedly said that he did not have one.
Rajasthan-Only Vodka Bottle Seized
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a 750 ml bottle of “Magic Moments Flavours of India Jamun Spicy Mint Radiant Flavoured Vodka”, according to the police release.
The bottle, valued at ₹760, had the marking "FOR SALE IN RAJASTHAN ONLY".
As the accused had failed to produce a valid permit authorizing possession of liquor in Gujarat, police seized the bottle under a panchnama.
Separate FIRs Registered
Police have registered a case in connection with the alleged drunk driving and the crash. A separate FIR has also been filed under Section 65(A)(A) of the Gujarat Prohibition Act for allegedly possessing Indian-made foreign liquor without a valid permit.
The seized bottle has been sent for further investigation as the accident investigation continues.
There are also fears of drunk driving and illegal liquor movement across state lines and that is the problem. Gujarat has strict prohibition laws and possession of alcohol without the required legal permission can lead to criminal action.
Further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
