Bangarapet Police Bust Major Sex Racket; Kingpin Arrested and Three Women Rescued in Kolar

Disrupting a prostitution ring operating out of a residential area, the Bangarapet police struck a serious blow against organized crime in Kolar district. The raid that occurred in the Vijayanagar Colony of Bangarapet town resulted in the arrest of the alleged mastermind and the rescue of three women who were driven into the trade by financial desperation.

The Midnight Raid

After receiving a series of tip-offs about some nefarious activity in a quiet residential pocket of Vijayanagar, a special team from the Bangarapet Police Station kept a house under surveillance. On Tuesday, the police did a surprise raid after confirming the presence of irregular visitors. The police took the woman they suspected from being a kingpin, Geetha, into custody while they carried out the operation. Also taken into custody were three clients, three men who were also at the premises.

Exploitation of the Vulnerable

The investigation’s detailed details indicate a tragic cycle of exploitation. According to police sources, the racket focused on poor and vulnerable women from nearby neighborhoods. These women were enticed by the gang’s offer of easy money to mitigate their dire financial situation. The investigation was surprised to disclose that a few of them were working for money as little as ₹200. The kingpin, Geetha, is said to have pocketed the bulk of the profits, leaving the victims with a pittance after putting them in vast legal and health jeopardy.

Repeat Offenders

This isn’t the first time this group has appeared in the police spotlight. In the past, it has been reported several people in the network including the kingpin have been arrested several times. But they reportedly started their illegal activities after returning from prison on bail, and frequently moved from location to location. “The gang’s model is to find women on high debt or with heavy family obligations. They make little immediate loans then force them into the racket to pay the ‘interest,’” a senior investigating officer said.

Legal Action

The Bangarapet police filed a formal case under the relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

  • Rescued women: Three of the women rescued in the raid have been sent to the state-run rehabilitation home, where they will be given counseling and support.
  • The Accused: Geetha, the kingpin, and three of her associates, are being interrogated to understand additional connections within the network that could pose as logistical providers or help tip them off to police movements.

Local Vijayanagar Colony residents have welcomed the police efforts with enthusiasm, explaining that such unlawful conduct was rendering families and children unsafe in the locality.
