A shocking case of alleged child abuse has emerged in Bengaluru, where the HAL Police has registered a criminal case against five daycare workers employed at an on-campus creche operated on Capgemini Technology Services India Limited’s Brookfield campus. In a shocking incident, toddlers entrusted to the facility were physically assaulted, intimidated, and treated cruelly.
The First Information Report (FIR) was submitted on June 29 by Tilakesh Kumar, a legal-cum-probation officer with the District Child Protection Unit. The complaint cites provisions relating to criminal intimidation and cruelty towards children.
Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu are among the accused, who are the caregivers who work for the daycare centre at Capgemini at the daycare centre in Bengaluru, the daycare centre of the company.
Complaint triggered by Disturbing Videos
According to the complainant, it came to light after he got videos through WhatsApp showing children crying and being mistreated by the daycare staff. The visuals raised an immediate inquiry, and the complaint was reported to the police.
The complaint states that on June 25, officials learned that the five women were responsible for supervising and caring for children whose parents work at the Capgemini campus.
Alleged Physical and Mental Harassment
The FIR contains serious allegations against the caregivers. Instead of caring, they are accused of physically assaulting the toddlers, intimidation, and psychological abuse.
According to the complaint, the alleged acts included:
- Locking crying children in washing machines to frighten them.
- Forcing children into narrow pipes containing water and leaving them there.
- Stuffing toddlers into bathroom spaces.
- Physically intimidating and frightening children through other abusive acts.
Police have registered these allegations for investigation. The allegations remain under investigation, and the accused have not been found guilty in court.
Parents Left Horrified
Police officials said the toddlers belonged to employees on the Capgemini campus, many of whom rely on the on-site daycare while they are doing their job.
The toddlers were professionals on the campus who left their children at the facility while on duty, police said. “Parents and officials were horrified to see the manner in which the care staff was handling these toddlers,” a police officer said.
The abuse is causing parents and employees to worry about monitoring mechanisms and child safety standards in the workplace daycare facilities.
Police Launch Investigation
Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield Division), confirmed that a case has been registered and that there is an investigation being conducted.
“We have started an investigation. Notices will be served to the individuals responsible, and they will be summoned for interrogation," the DCP said.
Investigators are to examine the videos, record statements from parents, daycare staff, and other witnesses, and collect more evidence before proceeding further.
