Bengaluru Christmas Traffic Advisory: Avoid Jams with These Alternate Routes and Parking Rules

To ensure smooth celebrations and public safety during the Christmas festivities, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. With massive crowds expected at major churches and shopping hubs like Phoenix Mall and Brigade Road, several road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect on December 24 and 25, 2025.

1. Major Road Closures (Pulakeshinagar Area)

Due to the large congregation expected at the Holy Ghost Church, traffic movement on Davis Road will be strictly regulated.

  • Restricted Stretch: Davis Road (between John Armstrong Road junction and Cookson Road junction).
  • Timing: From 7:00 PM on Dec 24 to 12:00 PM on Dec 25.
  • Alternate Route: Vehicles moving from Davis Road toward HM Road should turn right at John Armstrong Road, proceed to Viviani Road, take a left onto Cookson Road, and then re-join Davis Road.

2. Mall Zones: Mahadevapura Traffic Advisory

Heavy footfall is anticipated at Phoenix Mall, VR Mall, and Nexus Shantiniketan. To manage this, the following rules apply:

  • U-Turn Restrictions: Vehicles from Hoodi heading to Phoenix Mall must take a U-turn at Kamadhenu Nagar, turn left at the Shell Petrol Bunk, and use the Railway Parallel Road to enter through the mall’s rear gate.
  • KR Puram Route: Commuters from KR Puram are advised to use the Shell Petrol Bunk turn and enter via the rear entrance to avoid blocking the main ITPL road.

3. No-Parking Zones

Parking will be strictly prohibited on several key stretches to prevent bottlenecks:

  • Davis Road, Banasawadi Main Road, and Wheeler’s Road.
  • St. John’s Church Road, Hains Road, and Promenade Road.
  • ITPL Main Road: No parking from Shell Bunk (B. Narayanpura) to Garudacharpalya (Decathlon) and from Medicare Hospital to Big Bazaar Junction.

4. Central Business District (MG Road & Brigade Road)

While the primary New Year restrictions start later, Christmas Eve will see heavy pedestrian movement.

  • Public Transport: Commuters are strongly advised to use the Namma Metro (MG Road or Trinity stations) as parking in the CBD area will be nearly impossible after 6:00 PM.
  • Cab Points: Dedicated pick-up and drop-off points have been set up near major malls to prevent "on-road" stopping of Uber/Ola vehicles.
Feature Key Instruction
Holy Ghost Church Davis Road closed; use Viviani Road diversion.
Phoenix/VR Mall Use Rear Gate entry via Railway Parallel Road.
Cab Pick-up (Phoenix) Near Lowry Junction.
Cab Drop-off (Phoenix) Near BESCOM office, ITPL Main Road.

Safety Tips for Commuters

  1. Plan Ahead: Expect travel times to increase by at least 45–60 minutes in East Bengaluru.
  2. Use Metro: The Purple Line is the most reliable way to reach the CBD for midnight mass.
  3. Strict Enforcement: Traffic police will be monitoring for drunk driving and illegal parking with increased towing squads.
