Bengaluru Horror: Techie Woman Catches Neighbour Recording Her While Bathing

A worrying report of an alleged invasion of privacy has also hit the headlines in another urban area of Bengaluru, where a young software engineer allegedly caught a man attempting to secretly video her while she was bathing in her home.

The crime that took place on April 30 in Ashraya Layout near Garudacharpalya has again received attention in India's residential areas and raised alarm over safety and privacy in the city. The victim is employed by a private corporation in Bengaluru with the title of software engineer, police say. She left to take a bath when she got off work and went home at approximately 9:30 PM.

A Woman Sees Suspicious Activity by Bathroom Window

According to reports, the woman saw suspicious activity as she bathed near the bathroom window. A moment later, the woman realised somebody outside was apparently filming video footage on a cell phone. Shocked by this, the woman immediately yelled for help when she sighted the suspect. Before neighbours or residents could catch him, the suspect fled with the mobile phone, police said.

Mahadevapura Station Complaint

After the incident, the victim contacted Mahadevapura Police Station to submit a formal complaint. Mohsin said he believes that after the complaint and the initial investigation, it was identified from the complainant that the alleged accused is Karthik, a native of Kerala who works for a private company located in Bengaluru. The accused had rented the house next door to the victim’s house, which investigators said was a property he used to monitor movement around the house.

Accused Arrested by Police

The Mahadevapura police have since searched and arrested Karthik. Now, officials are reviewing the phone of the accused person and his digital files in order to find out whether videos were taken or sent. They are also now looking into whether the accused has previously committed similar crimes. Subsection about voyeurism, invasion of privacy and harassment has been covered as part of this case, officials said.

Growing Concerns About Privacy Breaches
