The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has announced a significant power outage across various parts of Bengaluru on Saturday, December 20, 2025. These disruptions are scheduled for essential maintenance and infrastructure upgrades at several key substations, including NIMHANS, Jayadeva, RR Nagar, and Banashankari.
If you live in South or West Bengaluru, you might need to plan your weekend carefully. BESCOM has scheduled emergency maintenance work that will affect more than 100 localities from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Major Affected Areas
The outages will primarily hit the following zones:
- Jayanagar & Surroundings: Jayanagar 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 9th T Blocks, Someshwara Nagar, Wilson Garden, and RV Road.
- Bannerghatta Road & BTM Layout: IAS Colony, KAS Colony, NS Palya Industrial Area, Bilekahalli, BTM 2nd Stage (Mico Layout), Gurappanapalya, Bismillah Nagar, and areas around Vega City Mall.
- Banashankari & Uttarahalli: Banashankari 3rd, 5th, and 6th Stages, Poornaprajna Layout, Srinagar, Hosakerehalli, Kathriguppe, and Ittamadu.
- RR Nagar & West Zones: Parts of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Pattanagere, and surrounding residential layouts.
- Other Key Localities: Tyagarajanagar, Basavanagudi, Girinagar 4th Phase, ITI Layout, Chunchaghatta, and Elita Promenade Apartments.
Reason for the Outage
The shutdown is necessary for quarterly maintenance and emergency repairs at the 66/11kV substations. The work includes:
- Transformer servicing and capacity enhancement.
- Tightening of high-tension (HT) jumpers to prevent sparks.
- Pruning of tree branches obstructing power lines.
- Line shifting work related to ongoing footpath developments on certain "Double Roads."
