Bengaluru Power Cut On December 26: BESCOM Announces Over 40 Localities to Face 7-Hour Shutdown

With Friday acting as a "bridge day" between the Christmas holiday and the weekend, many professionals had planned to work remotely. However, BESCOM has issued a notification stating that electricity supply will be disrupted from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (and until 6:30 PM in some zones) due to urgent infrastructure upgrades and quarterly maintenance at the Chandra Layout and Kattigenahalli substations.

Why is the Power Cut Happening?

The outage is part of an essential project by KPTCL to replace aging 66 kV lines with High-Temperature Low-Sag (HTLS) conductors. These new lines are designed to carry significantly more power and reduce the frequency of unplanned blackouts during the peak winter and summer seasons.

Areas Facing Major Disruptions

The power cut will be particularly intense in West and North Bengaluru. Residents in these areas should prepare for a 7-hour blackout:

  • West Bengaluru (Chandra Layout Station): RPC Layout, Remco Layout, Kalyan Layout, Subbanna Garden, MRCR Layout, Chandra Layout, Bapuji Layout, Vinayaka Layout, Mudalapalya, Canara Bank Colony, Vidyagiri Layout, Gangondanahalli, Nagarabhavi Coconut Garden, and BDA 13th & 14th Blocks.
  • North Bengaluru (Kattigenahalli Station): Bagalur Cross, Dwaraka Nagar, Kattigenahalli, Vinayakanagar, Manipal College area, BSF, and PDMS.
  • Rajajinagar & Surrounds: Select blocks in Rajajinagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, and Subramanyanagar may face intermittent or scheduled outages as part of a larger 7-day maintenance cycle.

Pro-Tip for WFH Employees:

If you live in the affected zones, ensure your power banks and laptop batteries are fully charged by Thursday night. Alternatively, consider moving to a co-working space in East or South Bengaluru, where supply is expected to remain stable.
