In another tragic incident in Bangalore within the HSR Layout area a 36-year-old woman found herself dead by suicide when her family claimed she had been harassed as she departed after her second marriage. Shailaja, 36, was found dead in her residence, in 27th Cross area around 10 am (R.E.) yesterday, said police.
Shailaja married a man named Venkatesh a little over a year prior according to news reports of the marriage. This was their second marriage. Family members of the deceased had said Shailaja has been harassed continuously by her husband’s family, and eventually she did have to take the extreme step.
When locals and family members saw her unresponsive, they notified the police. An investigation was started by HSR Layout Police Station. Shailaja’s family has made a complaint that her in-laws may be being mentally and possibly physically threatening.
The body was moved to St. John’s Hospital for post-mortem assessment in order to have an established cause of death. Additional action will be taken and information about family and witnesses is being sought.
Police are now investigating all angles, including allegations of domestic abuse, and will ask family members of the husband and his family, Ms Coker said. There have been no arrests so far, she said.
This sort of incident has only brought home yet again the serious difficulty in domestic harassment and the psychological trauma it can bring to people. If there is a domestic harassment incident and there may be mental distress due to harassment against girls in the world that is at such situations will need to have help and you need to say something, at least in the first place.
