Power interruptions in some major localities will last 7 to 8 hours; hence residents & business owners in Bengaluru must prepare in advance for their day. There will only be power outages from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM but restoration will follow upon completion of technical works earlier.
Affected Areas on February 11
Wednesday’s maintenance covers the South, East, and North zones of the city. Key areas include:
- South Bengaluru & HSR Layout: HSR Layout (5th Sector), Jakkasandra, Teachers Colony, Venkatapura, Greenage Apartments and sections of Koramangala Extension.
- Electronics City Phase 1 & 2, Doddathogur, Chikkathogur, Konappana Agrahara, Neeladri Road & Huskur (Electronic City & Surroundings).
- BTM & Bannerghatta Road: BTM Layout 1st Stage, Gurappanapalya, Madiwala, Maruthi Nagar, Akshaya Nagar, Hulimavu and Kodichikkanahalli.
- North Bengaluru: Jakkur Plantation, Sahakar Nagar (G Block), Amruthahalli, Shabarinagar, Canara Bank Layout and Thindlu Village.
- Chitradurga Division: Maintenance at the Talaku 66/11 KV station will affect Bedaraddihalli, Thimmappayanahalli, N. Devarahalli, Monnekote and Hirehalli.
Affected Areas for Thu 12 February:
KPTCL is on to substation upgrades and Thursday looks to be a day when power cuts will occur in all major residential clusters and industrial zones:
- Tumakuru & Rural Areas: Outages will be observed in all regions under the Ankansandra Substation (66/11 KV), from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- Central & West Bengaluru: Basaveshwar Nagar, RPC Layout, Vijayanagar Service Road and industrial areas like KSG Industrial Estate, Nanjappa Industrial Estate.
- Yashwanthpur & Jalahalli Zone: Pipe Line Road, Mohan Kumar Nagar, Mathikere, JP Park, BK Nagar, LIC Colony and HMT Layout.
- Koramangala Zone: Godavari Block, Netravathi Block, Jyothi Nivas College area, ST Bed, and Judicial Block.
Reasons for the Shutdown
The shutdown is part of a preventive maintenance plan, BESCOM officials said. The work involves:
- Tightening Loose Connections: In order to avoid sparks and short circuits.
- Tree Trimming: Clearing branches within reach of overhead lines when winds blow in to prevent faults.
- Substation Upgrades: Refitting transformers to have a larger summer load, that could be added.
Insulator Cleaning: For transmission effectiveness.
Essential Tips for Residents
- Charge Devices: Make sure everything is fully charged (laptops, mobile phones, power bank) before 10am.
- Water Management: Overhead tanks have to be filled up early in the morning, water pumps will not be working throughout it.
