The Fatal Crash

Palamaner police said the accident took place on the National Highway between Bengaluru and Tirupati, which connects the city. According to the report, a sedan was driving extremely fast when it lost control and struck the rear of the heavy-duty truck. The crash was so bad the front half of the car was totally crushed under the truck’s chassis. All five occupants of the vehicle believed to be residents of Bengaluru died instantly.

Grueling Rescue Operations

The crash was reported immediately by nearby residents. Palamaner police responded on the scene when they found a horrifying sight. The car was so badly mangled that the victims’ bodies were trapped inside its wreckage. "The front part of the car was obliterated.

Our teams struggled with getting the bodies off the bent metal,” a senior police officer on scene said. Rescue teams had to cut through the car’s frame using heavy-duty cutters to get the bodies out. Once they were released, the bodies were taken to Palamaner Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Investigation: Is It Speed or Fatigue?

The police are now documenting a case and investigating the particular cause of the disaster. Here are the two most widely accepted theories currently under consideration:

  • Drowsiness at the Wheel: Because this is believed to have happened in the early hours of the morning, investigators believe that the driver may have fallen asleep and caused a fast, rear-end collision.
  • Excessive Speed: Considering the skid marks and damages it sustained, the car was moving at speeds well above what was allowed to be done in that stretch of the road.

Identifying the Victims

Police are now reviewing records of the vehicle’s registration and documents found inside the car to identify the deceased. Family members in Bengaluru are being interviewed in hopes of understanding the tragedy. Palamaner officials advised people on the Bengaluru-Tirupati highway to be extra careful, particularly late into the night and early in the morning when driver fatigue is at its zenith.

Community in Mourning

Once news of the accident started coming out, Bengaluru’s people grew visibly shocked. The tragedy also underscores starkly the hazards of a long pilgrimage on that long highway. Details of the identity of the victims and the funeral arrangements are anticipated once post-mortem reports are completed and families come to Chittoor.
