The Cycle of Failed Ventures and Mounting Debt

Initial investigations point squarely to financial distress as the heartbreaking motive behind the suicide. The family had made several attempts to run small-scale businesses to sustain themselves, but each venture ultimately led to losses and spiralling debt. Their entrepreneurial journey began with a Biryani business, which failed to succeed. They then attempted to recover by starting a chips business. Unfortunately, this also resulted in significant financial setbacks, compounding their existing debt burden and trapping them in a financial vortex.

The Final Effort That Couldn't Outrun the Debt

Desperate to stay afloat and repay their creditors, the grandmother, Madamma, and her daughter, Sudha, made a final attempt at generating income by starting a milk vending business. However, the debt accumulated from their previous two failed ventures was simply too high. The crushing weight of the loans, coupled with the mental anguish of facing creditors and seeing no viable path to recovery, drove the family to utter despair. This feeling of being trapped without any escape route is believed to have compelled them to take the extreme and tragic step.

Police Arrive to Investigate the Scene

Following the discovery of the bodies, the Sudduguntepalya Police were immediately alerted and rushed to the Tavarekere residence to secure the area and commence their investigation. The discovery of the three deceased family members—Madamma, Sudha, and Monish—who had consumed poison, marked the beginning of a grim inquiry. The police meticulously searched the premises for clues, particularly a suicide note, which would help confirm the motive and provide details on the extent of the debt and the identity of the creditors.

Senior Officials Oversee the Inquiry

To ensure a thorough and prompt investigation into the circumstances surrounding the triple suicide, senior police officials were deployed to the site. DCP Sara Fathima, a high-ranking officer, personally visited the scene alongside the Sudduguntepalya police team. Their presence underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case, seeking to establish exactly what factors, including any potential harassment by lenders, may have contributed to the family's final decision. The official inquiry aims to bring clarity to this devastating incident.

A Sobering Reminder of Financial Stress

This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim and immediate reminder of the severe mental health crisis and extreme financial stress faced by vulnerable families in urban areas. While Bengaluru is known for wealth and opportunity, this tragedy highlights the desperation that business failures and unmanageable debt can inflict on individuals and families. The community now mourns the loss of three lives—a grandmother, a mother, and a young school-going grandson—whose future was tragically cut short by the immense burden of economic hardship.
