The private bus was travelling on its way to Rajkot when it apparently bumped into the tanker driving ahead on the road near Chotila, police officials said. The collision had a massive impact; some passengers were still trapped in the crashed vehicle. Within hours, residents and ambulance workers arrived on the scene.

Rescue trucks were dispatched to retrieve wounded passengers who had gotten caught in the wreck, and the dead were moved for proper post-mortem examinations. Four people were dead on the spot from very serious injuries, and approximately 10 had injuries from the crash, the police said.

The hapless passengers were quickly rushed to the hospital, and some were said to be critically ill. Overspeeding, or the driver’s negligence, may have played a role in the crash, investigators believe, but a factor that may have affected this wreck’s cause has yet to be determined fully.

The authorities are also looking into whether it was a lack of visibility or a mechanical malfunction that led to the disaster. The crash led to extensive congestion for hours along the Rajkot-Chotila highway as rescue agents cleared the wreckage. Police assisted in getting traffic picked up after that. Officials higher up in the district went to help salvage the crash site. Victims’ testimony and witnesses’ testimony came under scrutiny, said a police spokesman for Gujarat.

In other words, road accidents are a major issue in the state of Gujarat, where large numbers of passengers and the commercial transport sector would suffer high numbers of casualties on the road. Authorities have regularly advised drivers to stay within the speed limit and adhere to safety laws to reduce the number of deaths in fatal crashes. It is unclear who the dead and injured passengers are.
