Food safety authorities have conducted raids and inspections at food processing units in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district and seized a total of 1,033 kg of food products during the operation.
The inspection was carried out at food processing facilities located near Krishnapura, Taredahalli and Hanumanahalli villages in Ranebennur taluk.
The investigators opened the inspection after food products were not being properly packed. They assessed facilities and looked at how food products were being handled, stored and transported.
1,033 Kg Food Products Seized
According to officials, the enforcement operation resulted in the seizure of more than one tonne of food products from two establishments.
At Venkateshwara Hatcheries Private Limited, officials seized about 382 kg of food products.
Another 651 kg of food products were seized from Westwind Food Processing.
The total amount seized from the two establishments was 1,033 kg.
According to reports, authorities are believed to have taken the action as part of food safety inspections of food products so that food products are processed and transported in accordance with safety and packaging regulations.
Products Allegedly Transported Without Packaging
The food products were being transported without proper packaging, officials said.
Packaging is a vital part of food safety as it protects food from contamination during storage and transport. Food businesses have to comply with all the standards for handling, labelling and selling food products to comply with and are subject to the relevant authorities’ directives.
During the inspection, officials examined the processing units and seized products that were found to be in violation of the requirements cited by the authorities.
The operation will send a message to food processing businesses in the region that they should be taking all food safety measures to meet food safety standards while handling and transporting products in line with those standards.
Notices Issued to Company Owners
After the seizure, notices were reportedly issued to the owners of the concerned companies.

The notices are part of the regulatory action taken after the inspection. The concerned establishments have been directed to comply with the prescribed requirements to avoid further violations.
Officials will monitor that compliance with the instructions issued during the inspection will be observed.
Officials Lead Inspection
The inspection was conducted under the leadership of the Haveri Assistant Commissioner and food safety officials.
People from the Food Safety and Drug Administration department worked on the equipment and inspected the food processing units.
The Ranebennur Tahsildar and Sub-Divisional Officer, as well as officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, were involved in the enforcement.
Kalyani Kambale, the in-charge designated officer for Food Safety and Drug Administration, also provided information about the action.
Food Safety Compliance Under Focus
The raid makes food safety compliance the focus of processing and manufacturing units.
Food companies should adhere to hygiene and handling standards as well as ensure products are packaged well before consumers take delivery of them.
