The Union Territory of Puducherry has announced a holiday for all schools today, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in light of the continuous heavy rainfall warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The announcement was made by the Education Minister, A. Namachivayam, who confirmed that the precautionary closure applies universally to all government, government-aided, and private schools across the region.
Precautionary Measure Against Weather System
The decision comes as the region continues to experience the effects of the persistent weather system in the Bay of Bengal, which is the remnant of Cyclone Ditwah. Although the system has weakened into a depression, it remains close to the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, bringing significant rainfall and potential risks of waterlogging and disruption to daily life.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal regions, including Puducherry, for today. The closure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff and prevent complications arising from unsafe travel conditions and localized flooding.
Civic Bodies on High Alert
Local administration and disaster response teams in Puducherry are on high alert, working to manage the downpour. Authorities have been directed to monitor water levels, clear storm drains, and take swift action to alleviate waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Parents and students are advised to stay indoors and follow official announcements from the government and local media for further updates on the weather situation and school re-opening.
