In a shocking and tragic incident, a woman allegedly killed her 14-month-old daughter following a domestic argument with her husband in Hyderabad, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in the Golconda area of the city. According to police officials, the accused woman, identified as Gausia Begum, allegedly suffocated her infant daughter Umme Aiman by pressing a pillow against the child’s face.
Dispute Over Festival Clothes
Police said Gausia Begum lived with her husband Ameer Ali, an auto driver by profession, along with his mother at their residence in Risala Bazaar. The couple reportedly married against the wishes of Gausia’s parents and had been living together with their daughter for the past 14 months.
According to investigators, the couple had an argument on Sunday regarding buying new clothes for the upcoming Ramzan festival. During the dispute, Ameer Ali allegedly refused to purchase clothes for the occasion, which led to a heated argument between the two.
After the altercation, Ameer reportedly left the house in anger. Police believe that during this period, Gausia Begum suffocated the child using a pillow.
Attempt to Mislead Family
Officials said that after the incident, the woman allegedly tried to mislead family members by claiming that the baby had gone missing. However, relatives later found the child inside the house and immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared the infant dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation Underway
Confirming the incident, Syed Faiz, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Golconda, said the woman was taken into custody after the case came to light.
During questioning, the accused reportedly told police that she had been upset due to alleged harassment and disputes with her husband and in-laws.
Following the incident, Gausia Begum reportedly surrendered at the Golconda Police Station. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
Authorities are currently examining all aspects of the case, including the family’s background and the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
