Jahnavi has been appointed as the State General Secretary of the Janata Dal (Secular) after being a Bigg Boss contestant, TV anchor, and actress. The appointment was officially made by JDS State President and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy as part of her political journey.
Jahnavi entered politics in May 2026 when she joined the JDS in the presence of H.D. Kumaraswamy at the party headquarters at JP Bhavan in Bengaluru. Before entering politics, she had built a very strong public profile through her work as a television news anchor, reality show participant, and actress. Her appearance on the Kannada version of Bigg Boss also made her popular among Karnataka viewers.
As soon as she was appointed, Jahnavi expressed gratitude to the party leadership and pledged to work hard to strengthen it. She thanked H.D. Kumaraswamy for having confidence in her. She thanked JDS youth leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy and Greater Bengaluru JDS President Ramesh Gowda for their support, and also the whole team. She said she would devote herself to party building and wished to fulfil the responsibilities she is called to carry out.
Jahnavi’s rise in the party has attracted attention because she has moved from the media and entertainment industry into public life. She started her career as a television anchor and became a familiar face on TV shows, reality shows, movies, and so forth. Her entry into politics was seen as a new chapter after years in the media and entertainment world.
In recent months, Jahnavi has also gained visibility through public campaigns and grassroots issues. She participated in protests and public outreach activities related to the proposed Bidadi Township project and participated in padayatras that attracted public attention. These activities also helped establish her presence beyond television and social media, bringing her closer to local political and civic issues.
Her involvement with youth and public issues has been well supported by supporters of the party. Party leaders say people of public exposure and involvement in the community will contribute to the increase of the party’s outreach efforts. Jahnavi’s local work and active involvement in organising events led to the selection of Jahnavi as the JDS’s leader.
Her appointment comes at a time when Karnataka political parties are growing more and more in size, and more and more young leaders and professionals from various regions are being brought in. Jahnavi’s elevation to State General Secretary signals the party’s desire to bring new faces and expand the scope of engagement across society.
With this appointment, Jahnavi now assumes one of the key organisational responsibilities in the JDS. Political observers will be watching closely to see how she helps with party activities and public outreach in the next few months as she continues her transition from television personality to full-time political leader.
