One of the city's worst road accidents took place yesterday when a 29-year-old bank worker was killed after his motorcycle collided head-on with a petrol tanker near Chikkapadasalagi in the Bagalkote district of Karnataka. The horrific accident was under the jurisdiction of Jamkhandi Police Station and once again shows that road accidents on state highways are on the rise.
The deceased has been identified as Nitin Chankeri, 29, a resident of Jamkhandi town, according to initial information. Nitin was employed in a bank and was going to his workplace in Todalbagi village when the accident happened.
The reports suggest that Nitin was riding his motorcycle towards Todalbagi in the morning when a petrol tanker travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on with his vehicle near Chikkapadasalagi village in Jamkhandi taluk. The motorcycle was totally mangled at the time of the collision, and the rider suffered catastrophic injuries.
Nitin died instantly due to the severe impact. The accident was reported as extremely gruesome. The force of the collision apparently severed the victim’s right arm and right leg. The severed leg remained near the accident site while the severed hand was thrown into a nearby agricultural field due to the impact, shocking people who rushed to the site.
Residents immediately alerted the police and emergency services of the tragic accident. The Jamkhandi Police Station immediately responded and secured the area before transferring the body for post-mortem examination. The damaged motorcycle and petrol tanker were also examined as part of the investigation.
Police have registered a case and begun to investigate the causes of the accident. Witness accounts, vehicle condition, road condition, and any available CCTV from nearby areas will be reviewed by investigators. Speeding, negligence, or other factors are also being looked for in the fatal collision, investigators said.
