The victim in the case, Muskaan, was seriously injured in the acid attack. She was rushed to the district hospital and she is being treated according to sources within the police. Muskaan (seen as the wife of Ayesha’s younger brother) is also the wife of Shabaz Ahmed, who is also married to the younger brother of Muskaan.

However, as Muskaan’s husband was alcohol-addicted and only able to provide limited support to the family, he was growing dependent on Shabaz to help them. The situation deteriorated as it turns out that Shabaz Ahmed had had an illicit romance with Muskaan too and provided her money.

Within weeks since it was discovered between the two families that Muskaan and Shabaz had eloped in Bengaluru and settled. A "rajipanchayat" (private settlement meeting) was held Wednesday night at a relative's home in Azad Nagar to resolve the matter. What was initially a talk quickly turned into an argument.

Ayesha later, in a sudden fit of anger, attacked Muskaan, allegedly throwing bathroom cleaning acid that she had brought with her in advance, and after the attack, Ayesha left Muskaan in agony. A police vehicle was used to take Muskaan to a hospital when the Galpete Police arrived.

At the scene, senior officers - Principal Police Officer and Superintendent - were on hand for investigations. A case is being registered and an investigation is taking place. Police have taken Ayesha into custody since she went into hiding initially. Police have questioned her and legal processes for acid attack and attempted murder are being opened, as the case is currently under law on what has happened.

The severity of acid attacks is underlined in India and they are horrific crimes with great penalties. Such an act underlines the necessity of more awareness, more law enforcement, and more social supervision to prevent such violent attacks which are likely to occur among all domestic conflicts and infidelity.
