On June 3, Bengaluru was quite filled with smiles as DK Shivakumar took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka for the first time. A large crowd of people, supporters of the party and well-wishers were present at Lok Bhavan at that time to celebrate the political landmark. Laddoos were distributed soon after the ceremony, symbolizing victory at the place.
The distribution of sweets is a tradition in Indian politics a time of celebration and new beginning. Shivakumar’s supporters were happy, and they were also celebrating because they were his supporters and also the beginning of something new in Karnataka. Lok Bhavan was full of joy that was so infectious, with slogans and sweets being sung and exchanged.

The huge crowds caused traffic restrictions across central Bengaluru to be imposed and police issued alerts and directions for congestion and traffic was not allowed in such a large area for traffic to be through. But the mood was bright and happy as party workers ensured visitors and local people could be part of the celebrations. Laddoos were given out and the tradition was mixed with the modern political spectacle and the political event was very much a culture-based affair.
Shivakumar’s swearing‑in is a watershed moment for Karnataka’s politics. His supporters are confident that he will bring stability and development, and the ceremonial distribution of sweets, which is in line with the association of politics and community celebration in India, also showed the political and cultural link to both.
