Hotels in Bengaluru Forced to Shut

Many hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru have reportedly decided to temporarily shut down their kitchens until the LPG supply situation improves. The shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, which are widely used by restaurants and food businesses, has made it difficult for eateries to continue serving customers.

Restaurant owners say that even when cylinders are available, the prices have surged significantly, making it financially challenging to operate normally.

Corporate Cafeterias Struggle With Gas Supply

The crisis is also affecting corporate offices that rely on commercial LPG cylinders to prepare meals for employees in their cafeterias. Several companies are struggling to maintain regular food services due to the shortage. As a result, some corporates are exploring alternative arrangements, including allowing employees to work from home.

HCLTech Announces Temporary Work From Home

According to reports, HCLTech has asked employees at its Chennai office to work from home for two days due to the situation. Employees have been advised to work remotely on March 12 and March 13, as the company faces challenges in maintaining normal cafeteria operations amid the LPG supply crunch.

Infosys Alerts Employees About Food Shortage

Meanwhile, Infosys has informed employees working at its Bengaluru offices about potential food shortages in office cafeterias due to the LPG crisis. The company has reportedly suspended live food counters in its cafeterias and advised employees to bring home-cooked meals or packed food to the office. A similar advisory has also been issued to employees at Infosys offices in Chennai.

Government Says Supply Is Stable

Despite reports of shortages across several regions, the government has stated that there is currently no major disruption in the supply of cooking gas. However, on the ground, many areas are experiencing difficulties in obtaining LPG cylinders. Both commercial LPG cylinders used by restaurants and domestic LPG cylinders used in households are facing supply challenges in several cities.

With the shortage affecting businesses, restaurants, and even corporate workplaces, industry experts warn that the situation could worsen if supply chains are not stabilized soon.
