There is a disturbing incident in Maharajganj family court in Uttar Pradesh, a woman and her family have been assaulted by others in court that raises questions about security measures on the court premises. Priya Tripathi was in court when she was attacked by her estranged husband Manish Kumar Mishra.
According to the complaint and the details of the incident, Tripathi and her family were confronted by Mishra and two other associates while the maintenance hearing was going on. The encounter allegedly got violent inside the court. A number of videos have since spread of the incident and the response of people at the site.
The footage also shows the woman being attacked in the court premises. It’s the kind of situation where you would think litigants, lawyers, court staff and security guards were going to be protecting,” the lawyer said.
Police officials and other people at the scene intervened during the incident, it was reported. The response of the people seen in the circulating videos has also emerged as a point of debate, with people saying they were asked to leave and not immediately detained. The police response will be the subject of investigation.
After this purported assault Priya Tripathi approached the police and went to the hospital to lodge a complaint by providing video evidence of the attack. Police are investigating and the footage is being studied as soon as possible to understand what really happened and the role of those who have been accused of having played in the clash.
The incident has attracted attention beyond the immediate family dispute because it happened at a court hearing on maintenance. Family courts are typically used for delicate matters of marriage, separation, maintenance and other domestic disputes.
