A high-stakes political gathering in Mandya turned tense on Monday with a victim who was seeking justice being manhandled and threatened by a local JD(S) leader. The incident was caught on camera and has since gone viral, involving Prasanna, who has been making serious allegations against the former Malavalli MLA Dr. K. Annadani and Sathanur Jayaram, a prominent JD(S) leader and close supporter of the former MLA.
The Allegations - A Decade-long conflict
Prasanna accused Dr K. Annadani of having an illegal relationship with his wife for nearly a decade. So Prasanna started a YouTube channel to publish call records and pictures to back up his claims. Prasanna claims that the former MLA has made efforts to hide the truth, filing defamation and criminal charges against him in various police stations.
Confrontation at the DISHA Meeting
The situation got violent when Union Minister and JD(S) State President H.D. Kumaraswamy came to Mandya for a DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting. Prasanna approached the leader, fell at his feet and pleaded for help. Kumaraswamy told the victim he would speak with him after the meeting ended but the aftermath took a violent turn.
As Prasanna tried to approach Kumaraswamy again after the session, he was blocked by Sathanur Jayaram. The viral video appears to show Jayaram and his supporters pushing Prasanna away from the venue and preventing him from speaking to the party leadership. Witnesses say Jayaram, who acts as a “shield” for Annadani, threatened Prasanna to stop talking about the situation publicly or face severe punishment.
Public Backlash and Increasing scrutiny
The “goon-like” behaviour of the JD(S) leader has drawn huge scrutiny in the public domain. Social media users and local residents have questioned the party’s approach to justice, asking why a common citizen’s plea is being met with physical force instead of a fair inquiry. “If asking for justice is to be assaulted then where should the common man go?” said one local activist.
While the JD(S) leadership has yet to issue a formal statement on Sathanur Jayaram, the incident has cast a shadow over the party’s outreach efforts in Mandya. Prasanna, meanwhile, goes through a fight for a divorce and the end of the alleged harassment by the former MLA’s inner circle, and the viral video is bringing pressure on the party to take any action.
