According to police accounts, there was a police operation that took place at the Thokkottu flyover on the outskirts of the city around 4 a.m. Arif, also in the police jurisdiction at Mangaluru South Police Station, was on his motorcycle when the attack happened.

The initial investigations suggest that a car rammed into Arif’s bike from behind and he collapsed on the road. As he did, attackers who were waiting at the location attacked him with deadly weapons, killing him. The attackers targeted his head, ensuring fatal injuries before fleeing the scene.

Police officials believe this attack was premeditated, based on the use of the vehicle to intercept the victim and the coordinated attack. The murder has exacerbated the situation here, and is already worrying law enforcement, according to the state police.

Ullal Police and senior officials rushed to the scene and conducted a preliminary inspection. A case has been registered and special teams have been set up to search for and catch the suspects. CCTV footage from nearby places is also being examined to gain access to the suspects’ location and capture their movements,” said a law enforcement source.

Arif had been involved in numerous criminal cases and police officers confirmed he was a rowdy-sheeter in the past, sources said. In 2022 he survived a murder attempt near Uchila bridge so investigators can sense that his latest killing could even be evidence of violence between gang members or someone who is in an ongoing rivalry.

Although investigators are still unsure of the motive of the murder, some speculation runs on all sides and a possible motive could range from personal feuds to gang conflict. And the people who did this will be brought to justice soon, the police said.
