‘Masked Man’ Alert in Bengaluru: Fear Grips Kempegowda Layout as Intruder Targets Homes During Day; Police Launch Manhunt

Ponderous fear has also spread among those in Kempegowda Layout, Bengaluru, over the discovery of a “Masked Man” who appears to be lurking in residential spots. The mystery man - who in the story conceals his face with a cloth or mask - has been seen scouting houses trying to enter during broad daylight. The incident has alarmed the area, particularly among the women and children who stay home while the men are away at work.

The Mahalakshmi Layout Police have recorded the situation and initiated a formal search for the suspect. MO: Picking on the Vulnerable Based on local reports and stories of victims, the masked man appears to have acted in a manner typical of the suspects known from the case. He usually attacks during the day, usually targeting houses where only women or children are living there. 

The approach

He stealthily climbs the stairs or huddles by the gates and rings the calling bell. Confrontation: In the case that one woman or child swings open the door, there is still a high possibility of use of secret weapon (knife, for instance) in order to threaten and break into domestic spaces for gold.

The excuse

He changes his tone immediately if he comes across a male resident or is interviewed by watchful neighbors. He frequently mentions searching for a relative's home, or giving an imprecise address to evade questioning before skulking off.

CCTV Footage and Local Sightings

The intruder has been observed several times in the close vicinity of roads to Narayana IT School, Kempegowda Layout. In one spooky video clip, the man is seen opening a gate and entering a residential compound. When asked by a neighbour he jokingly said he was there to “meet a relative” and walked away. Residents are now terrified and refuse to open the door for them even for deliveries. “We are scared to take even our balconies,” said another resident in the community.

"He seems to realize precisely when the men leave for work.” Police action: Search in progress. The Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station are stepping up efforts to solve the "Masked Man". Officers are analyzing the suspect’s physical build and movement patterns based on the CCTV footage available. 

More Police Patrols

The police have increased the patrols in the Kempegowda Layout and surrounding areas. Public Awareness: Police have gone into homes to remind residents about home safety.

Check Before Opening:

This would never mean opening the front door when the calling bell rings. Identify visitor first using peephole, safety chain or window.
