A massive fire broke out Tuesday at a clothing shop in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, and triggered panic in the vicinity in which it happened and sent the fire department to the scene right away.
First, the fire roared throughout the garment store, and huge plumes of smoke were seen skyward. Residents and shopkeepers rushed to the area, and emergency services rushed to stop the fire from spreading to other nearby shops.

Several fire tenders were called out, and firefighters launched an extensive operation to get the blaze under control. Clothing, fabric and packaging in the store, in part because of its highly combustible nature, could quickly spread and make the firefighting process more difficult.
Police also arrived at the site to direct traffic, cordon off the affected area and ensure public safety, officials said. Emergency personnel, they added, had to stay away from the area so that they could perform firefighting operations without obstruction.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or injuries. We are still assessing the situation, and if anyone was inside the shop when the fire started, the officials said.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire department officials said an investigation will be conducted once the flames are completely extinguished. An electrical short circuit, faulty wiring or some other factor may have triggered the incident.
The fire caused extensive damage to the clothing store, with merchandise, fixtures and other property said to have been destroyed. The extent of the financial loss will be assessed once the site is declared safe for inspection.
Witnesses told us people saw flames erupt from the shop and business owners in nearby buildings evacuated their businesses as a safety precaution. Several residents also assisted emergency workers in clearing the area and getting fire engines out.
Commercial fire incidents can be a challenge because of the very high quantity of combustible goods stored in retail buildings. Fire officials said we need to have fire safety systems in place to ensure access and that fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and electrical inspections are constantly maintained to prevent such incidents.
The situation is being closely monitored, and every effort is being made to prevent the fire from spreading further. Once firefighting operations are complete, officials will assess the damage and determine the exact cause of the incident.
