What began as a relationship between two people now appears to be a major examination scandal after a breakup allegedly led to the exposure of an MPSC paper leak.
According to the details of the case, Rituza was preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Drug Inspector examination. Gaurav, her boyfriend, wanted to support her dreams of becoming a government officer.
But a couple of days before the exam, Gaurav allegedly gained access to the leaked question paper and shared it with Rituza.
The alleged leak seems to have given Rituza a significant advantage. She has been reported to have scored 7th rank across Maharashtra in the examination.
However, the relationship between the two took a new turn later. After Rituza’s selection, she apparently refused to marry Gaurav.
The relationship was finally over and the break-up apparently changed the course of the entire case.
Following separation, Gaurav decided to disclose what he knew about the leak of examination paper. He allegedly sent a confidential email to the MPSC about the suspected leak and how the question paper had reached the candidates.
Even more unusual was when Gaurav sent out another email that claimed his complaint had just been sent as a joke. But by then, the matter had apparently caught the attention of the authorities.
The MPSC had already alerted the Mumbai Crime Branch, and the paper leak was opened up as an investigation began. It is said to have uncovered a wider network of MPSC officials, a coaching academy and others.
According to reports, around ₹4 lakh was involved in the transaction of the leaked examination paper sale. The investigation has led to the arrest of Gaurav and five others in the case and an investigation was launched.
Rituza’s selection has also been the focus of the probe. Her 7th place rank has turned out to be a key question for investigators to probe whether she benefited from the leaked paper and what role she had in the alleged examination irregularities.
The case has drawn attention because of its unusual sequence of events. What started with a boyfriend trying to help his partner prepare for a government examination eventually became a complaint that brought an alleged paper leak network to the attention of investigators.
It also raises larger questions about competitive exams. Thousands of candidates are waiting for MPSC exams with the hope that the selection process will be fair and based on merit.
Any leak can therefore affect not only the candidates directly involved but also the credibility of the recruitment process.
For now, the investigation still needs to determine how the question paper was leaked, who was involved, how it was distributed and whether candidates benefited from it. The allegations against individuals should be treated as allegations unless established through the ongoing legal process.
But the case has become an instructive case of how a personal dispute can suddenly bring a bigger examination scandal to light.
