The investigation into a young girl named Divya (name changed) in Nanjangud has taken a dramatic turn. Originally regarded as a case of harassment leading to suicide, the main accused, Aditya, has now come forward with evidence showing that the two were in a consensual romantic relationship. The discovery of information has added yet another layer of complexity and possibly makes the case about family opposition and pressure.
The Accused’s Defense: “We Planned to Marry.”
After allegations of harassment, Aditya released multiple photographs and audio recordings to the press to establish his links to the deceased. He and Divya were in love, according to him, and had a clear plan for their future. "Divya and I loved each other. Because she was still a minor, we had decided to wait until she graduated from school and turned 18 to get married," Aditya said. Their relationship was, he says, stable until her family intervened.
The Twist: Allegations of Family Pressure
Aditya’s statement indicates that instead of harassment, the family's decision to marry her off to another person was a major catalyst for the tragedy. Divya, he says, was mentally distressed because her parents were apparently preparing her for marriage to someone else against her will. "She told me that her family was forcing her into a different alliance. I suspect she may have taken this extreme step due to that mental trauma, or perhaps there is more to what happened within her home," remarked Aditya, raising suspicions about the circumstances of her death.
The Investigation Deepens
The Nanjangud police are meanwhile validating the audio and photographs released by the accused. There are now two main angles being considered by the investigation:
Abetment of Suicide: Did Aditya or the relationship pressure the minor?
Domestic Pressure: Whether the family’s alleged choice to prematurely fix her marriage played a role in her decision to end her life.
