The government has changed the rules for toll payments to make things easier for drivers who do not have a FASTag.
From November 15, 2025, vehicles without FASTag will still pay double toll if they use cash. But if they pay through UPI or other digital methods, they will now pay only 1.25 times the normal toll, instead of double.
Officials said this change will help reduce complaints about double charges and encourage more people to use digital payments. They also clarified that if the problem is due to the toll plaza’s scanner or system, drivers should only be charged the normal toll, not double.
FASTag is already used by 98% of vehicles in India. It is linked to a prepaid wallet or bank account and allows automatic toll deduction, helping traffic move faster at toll plazas.
Why This Matters:
- Drivers save money if they pay digitally instead of cash.
- It supports India’s push for digital payments.
- It reduces disputes at toll plazas about wrong charges.
