Bengaluru: Commuters on NH-4 should prepare for temporary traffic disruption as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun resurfacing work on the Peenya Elevated Flyover, the Dr Shri Shivakumara Swamiji Flyover. The roadwork on this flyover will involve a complete night-time closure of all vehicles from July 27 to August 5.
The Peenya Elevated Flyover is one of the busiest road lines connecting Nelamangala, Tumakuru, North Karnataka, and Bengaluru. Every day, commuters, buses, goods vehicles, and private cars navigate it; it is also a key entry point into the city. In addition to improving road quality, safety, and overall operation of the road on this important highway, resurfacing is also being done.
Night-Time Traffic Restrictions
According to the official traffic advisory, vehicle movement on the flyover will be prohibited only during night hours while the resurfacing work is carried out.
Monday to Friday
Closure Timing: 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM (next day)
Saturday and Sunday
Closure Timing: 12:00 Midnight to 5:00 AM
The restrictions only apply during the specified hours, and the flyover will be open to normal traffic during the day.
Vehicles Affected
The closure applies to all vehicles travelling from Nelamangala towards Bengaluru via the Peenya Elevated Flyover. This includes:
Two-wheelers, cars and SUVs, buses, goods vehicles and trucks, commercial vehicles.
Motorists going in this direction during the closure period must use the alternate route.
Alternate Route for Commuters
To minimize inconvenience, Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced a diversion plan for vehicles approaching the city from Nelamangala.
Instead of entering the elevated flyover near the Kennametal Factory, motorists should continue on the ground-level NH-4 carriageway and service road.

Traffic officials have advised commuters to follow road signs and directions from on-duty police officers to ensure smooth movement through the diversion route.
Authorities Urge Public Cooperation
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have asked motorists to cooperate during the maintenance period and plan their journeys to avoid delays. As the Peenya corridor is very busy during the day, resurfacing work has been scheduled at night to minimize inconvenience to commuters while ensuring the safety of road workers.
Commuters are also advised to allow extra travel time, especially for those heading to the airport, railway stations, bus terminals, or other time-sensitive destinations during the closure period.
Once completed, the resurfacing work is expected to improve driving conditions, reduce wear and tear on vehicles, and enhance safety on one of Bengaluru’s busiest elevated highways.
With the night-time restrictions still in place until August 5, drivers are advised to stay updated with official traffic advisories and use the designated alternate routes for a smooth trip.
